CCL alumn Gedion T. Hessebon appointed head of Addis Ababa Law School

The Department of Legal Studies wishes to congratulate Gedion T. Hessebon (CCL LLM 2009, CCL SJD 2015) on his recent appointment as the head of the School of Law in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he is also a faculty member.

The Department of Legal Studies hosted the SUN course Constitution-building in Africa (https://legal.ceu.edu/events/2016-07-11/constitution-building-africa-sum...) between July 11 - July 22, 2016. The 2-week summer course was convened for the fourth time, with the generous support of International IDEA and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. Faculty members in residence included H. Kwasi Prempeh, Omar Hamady, Babacar Kante and Horace Adjolohoun.

Article by Professor Petsche cited in decision of Oregon Supreme Court

In a recent decision on the availability of the doctrine of forum non conveniens under Oregon law (Espinoza v. EVERGREEN HELICOPTERS, INC., 359 Or. 63), the Oregon Supreme Court cited Professor Petsche's article: A Critique of the Doctrine of Forum Non Conveniens, 24 Fl. J. Int'l L. 545-581 (2012), in which he argues that the doctrine of forum non conveniens is frequently applied in an arbitrary manner and that it is unnecessary insofar as the function assigned to it can be performed more adequately by suitable jurisdictional rules.
