CCL alumn Gedion T. Hessebon appointed head of Addis Ababa Law School

September 9, 2016

The Department of Legal Studies wishes to congratulate Gedion T. Hessebon (CCL LLM 2009, CCL SJD 2015) on his recent appointment as the head of the School of Law in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he is also a faculty member.

Gedion defended his dissertation on the contextualization of constitutionalism in Africa in 2015. Before his appointment, in the spring semester of 2016 he was a visiting fellow at the Center for Constitutional Democracy, Indiana University Maurer School of Law. In 2015-2016 he was a senior legal advisor for the International Law and Policy Institute, Oslo, Norway and also served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Ethiopian Law. Currently Gedion is working on a book project based on his dissertation and is developing a new project on developmentalism and constitutionalism in Africa.

Gedion continues to keep strong ties with the Department of Legal Studies: he has been co-teaching an LLM course on Constitution-building in Africa with Markus Böckenförde since 2015 and has been on the team convening the SUN course on Constitution-building in Africa (link to news item) since 2013.

The Department of Legal Studies, and the comparative constitutional law program in particular, are wishing Gedion great success in his new position.
