Sajo, Uitz Win 2018 CEU Award for Outstanding Research

October 9, 2018

By the decision of the Selection Committee, Professor Andras Sajo and Professor Renata Uitz, from the Department of Legal Studies have been selected as the recipients of the 2018 CEU Award for Outstanding Research. The award recognizes outstanding research by CEU faculty that has had a significant international impact.

In their most recent book, The Constitution of Freedom, published by Oxford University Press, Sajo and Uitz explore the place of constitutionalism in the face of the rise of illiberal, authoritarian regimes - packaged in written constitutions. In the face of growing skepticism about the everyday practice of liberal democracy, they persuasively demonstrate why constitutions based on constitutionalism remain indispensable for enabling modern freedoms.  This excellent scholarly work makes a timely and significant contribution to the study of constitutions and individual liberty.

The awards were conferred at the 2018/2019 academic year Opening Ceremony, on September 14, 2018.
