Joao Victor Morales Sallani is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Legal Studies at Central European University (CEU) since 2023.

His research focuses on public international law, with particular attention to sociolegal approaches to international courts, and interactions between international law and international relations from theoretical and empirical perspectives. His doctoral research explores how changes in international relations influence the transformation of international law, with a focus on the International Court of Justice.

Joao has experience as a lawyer in international law firms and international organizations, having worked with litigation, international trade, international taxation, regional integration, and nuclear non-proliferation. Before coming to CEU, he co-founded and directed, between 2019 and 2022, a Brazilian think tank focused on monitoring issues of international law, human rights, and the works of international courts.

Since 2023, Joao works as a rapporteur for the Oxford Reports on International Law, at Oxford University Press, and as an Assistant Editor at Review of Democracy.
