The Department of Legal Studies is proud to announce that Kate Karklina, SJD candidate, has received the Presidential Scholar Award. On this occasion, Kate has shared her thoughts you can read below.
"Initiated by former CEU Rector Michael Ignatieff and his wife Zsuzsanna Zsohar, the Presidential Scholar Award recognizes the achievements of two second year PhD students every year to encourage their academic excellence, foster their leadership potential and community-oriented activities in line with the CEU mission.
I was deeply honored to find out that I had been nominated for the Presidential Scholar Award as I see it as an exceptional recognition of my work so far and its prospects for the future, and cannot imagine a better way to finish the second year of my PHD journey than to receive the news of having been chosen as the recipient of one the two awards of 2022. Not only does the award stand for a highly prestigious acknowledgement of my work in progress, it also means that I have become part of the community of Presidential Scholars, a group of highly motivated and talented CEU students with deep commitment to CEU’s mission and values. I am humbled to now be part of this exceptional group and will continue to work on my research to carry through the promise that those nominating me saw in my work.
However, no researcher is an island: my work has benefitted greatly from the support of my supervisor Assoc. Prof. Markus Böckenförde, as well as my fellow SJD colleagues and the wonderful community spirit within my cohort that both inspires and encourages. It has been an absolute pleasure to work on my research as a CEU student so far and I look forward to the rest of this journey!"
