SJD candidate Mahmoud Elsaman serves as member of the Africa Arbitration Academy Model BIT drafting committee
Mahmoud Elsaman, an SJD Candidate at CEU’s Department of Legal Studies, served as a member of the drafting committee of the recently adopted Africa Arbitration Academy Model Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) for the African States.
The Africa Arbitration Academy’s Model BIT for the African States sets out a policy framework for the promotion of foreign direct investment in Africa and seeks to balance investment promotion, sustainable development, and the public interests of host states. The Model BIT serves as a reference for African States negotiating BITs and/or adopting their own Model BITs.
