On 6 December 2019, Professor Tibor Tajti participated as a panelist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) conference “Debt Enforcement in Europe and Beyond” at the EBRD headquarters in London.
Professor Tajti’s presentation focused on post-1990 developments and contemporary challenges corollary to private enforcement and debt collection in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). He also discussed the results of secured transactions law reforms, which has been a top priority of the EBRD, arguing that the CEE countries could be a valuable source of inspiration for Greece and other unreformed systems.
Catherine Bridge Zoller, Senior Counsel at EBRD, noted the “interesting and insightful discussions” that had taken place at the conference, citing Professor Tajti’s words: “Secured transactions reform is not one shot. It needs to be done in stages.”
