On 9 November 2018, Professor Mathias Möschel presented a key note lecture on Muslim Headscarf and Veil Bans as Harassment and participated in a panel of experts on the Effects of Populism on Research and Higher Education at the Irish Postgraduate Research Conference 2018 hosted by Dublin City University (Ireland).
In his keynote highlighted the failures of Muslim women wearing headscarves or veils to fight bans against such garments either as a violation of religious freedom or as discrimination on the grounds of religion before the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union and that possibly understanding and characterizing such bans as a form of religious, sexual and/or racial harassment might be a more successful avenue to challenge them.
