Böckenförde and CEU Alumni at ANCL in Gaborone

On October 11-13, 2018 at the Biannual Conference of the African Network of Constitutional Lawyers (ANCL) lawyers with an interest in African constitutionalism met in Gaborone, Botswana to discuss issues related to ‘Courts, Power, and Constitutional Law in Africa’. 
 
The conference turned out to be yet another occasion where members of the Department’s community showcased their shared research interests. 
 
Professor Markus Böckenförde (right) presented his paper: “Wandering Between Cultures of Constitutional Review: Benin’s Constitutional Court and the Rule of (Amendment) Law.” 
 
Boldizsar Szentgali-Toth (CCL '17) presented a paper he co-authored with Jennifer Gitiri (CCL 17) on “Organic Laws in Africa and the Judicial Branch.” The conference was co-organized by Dr Adem Kassie Abebe, an alumn of the annual CEU Summer University course  ‘Constitution Building in Africa’ in 2015, and member of the ANCL’s Coordinating Committee.
