Professor Jessica Lawrence participated in the ‘Imagine EU Law’ debate organized by Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland on 24 October 2018.
Speaking alongside Professor Matthias Hartwig from the Max-Plank-Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and Judge Nina Półtorak of Jagiellonian University and the General Court of the CJEU, Professor Lawrence called for reflection on the impact of neoliberal managerialism and structural inequalities within the EU.
As she argued, imagining a future for EU law will require “acknowledging the specificity and fallibility of Europe, as well as its successes… allowing disruption, contestation, and reform with respect to some of Europe’s governing principles… and allowing real participation by the public in negotiating the meaning of the European project.”
