Vlatka Butorac Malnar is an alumni of both the LEGS IBL LLM program (generation 2000/2001), and LEGS S.J.D. program, from which she graduated in 2005 by successfully defending her S.J.D. dissertation in EC competition law, supervised by prof. Stefan Messmann. The knowledge acquired at the CEU, and the degrees obtained there from enabled her to pursue an academic career at the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, Croatia, where she has been employed since 2006.

Her valuable degrees in competition law led to the introduction of the Competition Law course in the regular curriculum of both undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka.

Besides Competition Law, she is co-lecturing a course in Private International Law, European Union Private Law, and as of the next academic year, a course in Commercial Arbitration as well. Besides her lecturing activities, she has been intensively devoted to academic research, publishing a number of peer reviewed articles in the area of competition law, establishing herself as an expert in the field. This is evidenced by her participation in the EU project devoted to competition law training of Croatian judges and her involvement in the revisions of the Croatian Competition Act that is currently underway. Throughout the years she has been continuously participating in domestic and international conferences. Currently she is engaged in coauthoring the first textbook in Competition law in Croatia, and a monograph on Croatian competition law for the International Encyclopedia in Laws published by Kluwer Law International.
