Patricia Živković was an S.J.D. Candidate at the Legal Department at CEU. She was also a research assistant for Professor Tibor Várady and a coach of the CEU Vis Moot team. Her interest in alternative dispute resolution [ADR] mechanisms started during her undergraduate studies when she participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Her LL.M thesis topic was “Effects of Bankruptcy on Arbitration Proceedings”. During her LL.M program she spent two-month research period at Cornell Law School.

She was admitted in S.J.D. program at Legal Studies Department at Central European University in August 2012. Her work as an S.J.D. Candidate is focused on theoretical and practical issues related to the payment of costs in international commercial arbitration. So far, she has investigated the following topics: determination of the costs in arbitration proceedings, the nature of the obligation to pay the advance on costs, consequences of the non-payment of the advance, relation between the obligation to pay and the right of access to justice under the ECHR, and many others. At the moment she is researching the repercussions of a third-party funding on arbitration proceedings.

Besides conducting the research for her thesis, she was involved in other projects within the Legal Studies Department at CEU, participating at international conferences and working on her publications in arbitration and other legal areas. 

Other areas of interest: comparative sales law, private international law, mediation, comparative secured transactions law, cross-border bankruptcy law.
