SUN course on Constitution-building in Africa at CEU

Date:
Monday, July 20, 2015 - 9:00am to Friday, July 31, 2015 - 6:00pm

The Department of Legal Studies will host for the third time a summer course on Constitution-building in Africa between July 20 and 31, 2015 in the framework of CEU's SUN program, in cooperation with International IDEA, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the Centre for Global Cooperation Research.

The course directors are Markus Böckenförde, Gedion T. Hessebon and Renata Uitz. The distinguished resource faculty of the course is expected to include Yash Ghai and Jill Cottrell (through video link), as well as Christina Murray, Babacar Kante, Zaid Al-Ali and Kwasi Prempeh.

The two-week research course intends to tackle complex societal, political and legal problems in constitution-building from an interdisciplinary perspective, informed by field experience. For the first time the course will cover developments in North Africa with Zaid Al-Ali joining the resource faculty.

The program of the course is designed to be a forum for exchange and mutual learning for young scholars and practitioners from the civil sector, from public administration, from regional and international institutions. On July 24-25, 2015 participants of the course will be joined by experts and alumni for a workshop to exchange research results and experiences from recent constitution-building processes.

Deadline for application: February 14, 2015.
