Students of the Department of Legal Studies were granted the opportunity to visit the Austrian Constitutional Court, which is recognised as the first centralised constitutional court in the world and is occasionally referred to as the 'Kelsen Court', named after its designer Hans Kelsen. It constitutes the raw model and origin of a design of judicial review that has travelled around the globe ever since. The participants were provided with an introduction to the court's various tasks, its composition, and its work processes. This was followed by a guided tour of the building, which included a small exhibition on Kelsen's work related to the constitutional court. The visit has become a regular feature of our programmes and is of particular interest to students of the LLM in Comparative Constitutional Law.
