New Publication by CEU Students, Alumni and Professors: Missed and New Opportunities in World Trade (Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, also published as a special issue of the Hungarian Journal of Legal Studies)

July 3, 2018

The book addresses hot topics of international trade with papers on Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. It is based on the proceedings of the international conference that took place on 12 April 2017 at the University of Szeged, entitled “Missed and New Opportunities in World Trade: Is Trump China’s Trump in World Trade?” Besides the editors of the book, Csongor István Nagy (CEU visiting faculty) and Zoltán Víg, who are CEU alumni, two more contributions stem from under the pen of CEU-linked authors.

Stefan Messmann, former professor of the Central European University and former Deputy General Manager and Commercial Executive with Shanghai Volkswagen, in his paper entitled “A German Lawyer in the Far East: Investing and Doing Business in China”, gives an insider’s view on legal issues corollary to investing in China through the lens of a practicing lawyer.

Sanford U. Mba, a doctoral candidate at CEU, in his paper “Africa for the Chinese? - Revisiting Sino-African Bilateral Investment Treaties” deals with the challenges generated by the intensive trade and economic relations of Africa and China resulting in an unprecedented influx of foreign direct investment from the latter. He focuses, in particular, on how these have been dealt with under the existing China-Africa BITs.

The volume is freely accessible on the publisher's website.
