CEU Completes Its Participation in the 2017 Vis Moot

April 26, 2017

This year, CEU continued its long tradition of participation in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The Moot, which takes place in Vienna, is the world’s largest moot competition, attracting participants from more than 300 law schools from around the globe every year. The CEU team comprised four LL.M. students (Tamuna Beridze, Yuliya Edlina, Alexander Mzhelskiy, and Radu Somlea), and was coached by two senior SJD Candidates (Wasiq Dar and Boris Prastalo).

After almost seven months of grueling work and utmost dedication, the CEU team went toe-to-toe against other teams in the general rounds, pleading against John Marshall Law School, Moldova State University, Koç University, and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

While the CEU team did not advance past the general round of arguments, the team members showed extraordinary improvement in their oral and analytical skills, and have greatly developed their writing abilities. The competition has served not only as a tool for professional improvement, but also as a catalyst for personal growth and deep introspection. All the members of the team have stated that the Vis Moot left a deep mark on them, and that, as a result, they plan to stay involved in the competition in the future as well—whether as competitors or coaches in their respective countries.
