Sejal Parmar takes up OSCE media freedom position

Sejal Parmar has been appointed Senior Adviser to the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, on secondment from the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

 The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, said: “I’m delighted to have appointed Sejal Parmar as Senior Adviser in my Office. Given her expertise as an advocate and scholar in the field, she is a valuable addition to my team at a time when freedom of expression, including media freedom, faces grave challenges within the OSCE region and beyond”.  

Parmar began her new role on 12 December 2016 and will be on leave from CEU for the duration of her secondment.

Parmar is assistant professor in the Department of Legal Studies, core faculty at the Center for Media, Data and Society and visiting professor at the School of Public Policy. She has taught a range of subjects at CEU, including Freedom of Expression in Comparative Perspectives, Media Freedom and Human Rights and the UN Human Rights System. She previously worked as a senior lawyer at ARTICLE 19, the leading global NGO on freedom of expression.
