Michael Imran Kanu
Michael holds a bachelor of laws with honours degree (LL.B, Hons.) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (2007), and a degree of utter barrister (B.L) from the Sierra Leone Law School (2008). In 2015, he obtained his Master of Laws in International Business Law (LL.M), Central European University. Michael’s SJD research focuses on Secured Transactions Law reforms. In addition, his research interest areas include: Insolvency Law, Arbitration, Consumer Protection Law and Competition Law. Further Research Interest in Comparative Study of Law and Methodology, Anti-Corruption Law, Corporate Finance and Governance, Economic Aspects of Human Rights Law and Development.
Michael’s professional experiences before pursuing post-graduate studies at CEU includes: working as a Prosecutor at the autonomous Anti-Corruption Commission in Sierra Leone; served as the Secretary of the General Legal Council in Sierra Leone, (the legal practice regulatory body in Sierra Leone), and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee part-time (2011-2015). He was also Legal Officer, ProCredit Bank (SL) Limited (2009-2010), and Visiting Associate, Banking and Finance Practice, White & Case LLP (London Office) under the International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) Secondment program in 2009. He practiced as a private legal practitioner/consultant advising or contracted by numerous commercial entities and the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
